"It is fitting that as we celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., we are reminded that he chose his path in life to lead the fight that changed the course of our country’s history. It also reminds us that we too - no matter how ordinary we think we are, like him, we too can change the course of history.

On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, let us recognize the greatness that we all have inside of us. We are challenged to live as MLK, Jr. did and use our greatness to stand up for what is right despite the consequences. As he said best: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

I have no doubt that if he was still alive today, Martin Luther King, Jr. would remain steadfast in his fight for justice, equality, and freedom. As we commemorate his memory and legacy today, I urge you to follow his example and find that greatness inside you. As he said, “The time is always right to do what is right.”
