FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham police handed out over $8,000 in fines to people breaking handicap parking laws over the holiday shopping season. The department launched a special enforcement effort that began on Black Friday in 2019.

Lt. Harry Wareham told the City Council Wednesday that police caught 28 people violating the parking laws over the enforcement period from Nov. 29 to Jan. 1. The most violations were found at Shoppers World and at the Target store.

The department budgeted about $10,000 for the enforcement, where officers would take turns working four-hours shifts at local holiday shopping hot spots. The effort was paid for by previous fine revenue, but only ended up costing about $3,000.
