FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham High School received a swatting call on Tuesday, prompting heightened police presence throughout the day.

Framingham police officials announced around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday that they were investigating what they believed to be a swatting call at the high school.

Superintendent Robert Tremblay published a note to parents about the matter on Tuesday afternoon, stating that, as of 11:47 a.m., a stay-in-place order at the school had been lifted.

"We believe this to be another case of swatting or a fake phone call to emergency responders regarding a fake incident," said Tremblay.

"This same type of threat has been reported at several Massachusetts schools over the last several months and has been impacting school districts around the nation this school year."

Framingham isn't alone in this.

Before noon Tuesday, high schools in Milford, Medway, Framingham, Mansfield and Melrose were all targeted by "swatting" calls — where a 911 caller reports a false emergency to send police to a specific location. Out of caution, Foxborough High School was placed on lockdown due to the calls.

These calls come one day after a shooting at a school in Tennessee in which six people, including three 9-year-olds, were shot and killed.
