FRAMINGHAM, MA — Maybe you don't have a long enough broom, maybe your hands are a little too cold. Either way, it's illegal in Massachusetts to leave piles of snow on your car while driving — and local police are taking notice.

Framingham officers on Wednesday morning said they had handed out 32 tickets to drivers who had not cleared snow and ice off roofs, windshields, hoods, and windows.

State law generally bans drivers from operating a vehicle with anything that could "interfere with or impede the proper operation of the vehicle" — and that can include ice and snow. State law also bans drivers from driving with unsecured loads, and from driving with an obscured license plate.
