Framingham Resident Tom Caron Receives Champions of Mentoring Award at 13th Annual Champions of Mentoring Event

Caron is a NESN sportscaster and Mass Mentoring Partnership board member.

Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP), honored Framingham’s Tom Caron with a 2017 Champions of Mentoring award at the 13th Annual Champions of Mentoring breakfast at Fenway Park on June 27. The event honors individuals and organizations that have shown an outstanding commitment to mentoring and youth development.

Caron is a NESN sportscaster and MMP board member. Senator Linda Dorcena Forry (D- Dorchester) also received a Champions of Mentoring award.

“I can think of no more deserving individuals to honor as Champions of Mentoring than Senator Forry and Tom Caron,” said Marty Martinez, President and CEO of MMP. “Their commitment to leveling the playing field for young people through mentoring relationships has been a tremendous help to our work.”

"As a strong believer in Mass Mentoring Partnership’s mission, I'm truly humbled to be honored as a Champion of Mentoring,” said Caron. “I challenge adults to get involved in mentoring young people and give them the support they need."

Also at the event, Dorchester youth Shelby Destin and Taya Hopkins were each presented with the KELLY Award, a $20,000 educational scholarship, for persevering through adversity with the guidance of a caring adult. Two non-profit organizations, Enroot and Partners for Youth with Disabilities, each received grants from The James G. Connolly Tribute Fund to enhance their mentoring work with immigrant and refugee youth.

About 200 MMP supporters attended the event, which was presented by Santander and raised more than $130,000 to support MMP’s work across the Commonwealth. Special guests included Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey and Boston Red Sox Manager John Farrell, and Dan Roche, sports anchor for WBZ-TV, served as master of ceremonies.
