Framingham Schedules 2022 Tree Lighting, Holiday Block Party

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The holiday season is back in full force in Framingham, as the city hosts its 31st annual Tree Lighting at City Hall on Friday.

In addition to the tree lighting, which will take place on City Hall plaza, the Holiday Block Party will also return along a portion of Union Ave, which will be closed to traffic. The event will be held outdoors and run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m, officials said.

"Framingham families are encouraged to attend this popular City tradition which will include visits from Santa, Mrs. Claus, and – a new addition this year – the winter Yeti," a news release said.

Provided at the event will be free popcorn, cookies, candy canes, and hot chocolate, courtesy of the City, thanks to donations from BJs Wholesale Club and MetroWest Medical Center. The Rousseau Family will be playing holiday classics on their antique oil truck.

The Framingham Public Library will be on-site with its bookmobile, story walk, and green screen. Families and residents will have the opportunity to pose in front of the green screen with a "fun, holiday-inspired background of their choice."

Photos will be available on the Framingham Public Library Facebook page in the days following the event. Library staff will also be giving out free books, which were donated by the Library and Framingham Community Connections.

“I already spoke to Santa and Mrs. Claus and they are very excited to arrive in one of our fire engines to light our tree! Our City departments have been hard at work over the past few weeks preparing for their arrival,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “I encourage all of our residents and families to come out for this wonderful celebration on City Hall plaza.”

• City Hall (150 Concord Street)
