Framingham School Committee To Vote On Supt. 6-Year Contract
The School Committee will vote on the contract at its next open session.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham School Committee and Superintendent of Schools Robert Tremblay agreed to terms on a six-year contract. A vote on the contract is on the agenda at the School Committee meeting scheduled for Sept. 4. Tremblay became superintendent in 2017 and received a glowing review from the School Committee at the end of the last school year.
Tremblay received a score of “Proficient” in his most recent evaluation by the School Committee in June and the committee voted unanimously to enter into contract negotiations. His final score was a 3.44 out of 4 from the committee along with plenty of commendations for his attention to the district budget and implementation of various initiatives.
The new six-year contract is longer than the usual three-year contracts many districts issue. Thomas Scott, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, said in a statement to the School Committee, that the longer contracts could be beneficial for the long-term future of the district.

His statement reads in part:
"While approximately 25% of our superintendents work with contracts extending beyond the traditional 3 year agreements, we are seeing more districts acknowledging that multi-year agreements beyond three years makes sense when the school committee and the superintendent are operating with similar values and goals. It is not surprising that in districts where there is long term employment of the superintendent and a strong working relationship with the school committee the district has far more stability in leadership, more focus and attention to achieve long term goals and the ability to attract and maintain key personnel."
Tremblay’s current three-year contract expires by the end of the 2019-2020 school year. He earns an annual salary of $215,000. Tremblay would get a $10,000 salary bump under the new contract with a total salary of $225,000. Tremblay's proposed salary would be $43,000 less than Framingham's former Superintendent Stacy Scott's salary of $268,000 in his final year with the district.

Tremblay came to the district from Milford where he was a school administrator and music teacher — he was picked out of 33 applicants.
“Under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Robert Tremblay the Framingham Public School District has been consistently making meaningful progress in the areas of student achievement, fiscal management, transparency, and long-term planning,” said Adam Freudberg, Chair of the School Committee, District 4. “Implementing a strategic plan, managing a large school district, and addressing challenges requires continuity of leadership. The development of this contract and the eventual agreement between the parties provides the school district with the continuity we need. I credit Dr. Tremblay for his commitment to the Framingham community and look forward to what’s ahead.”
The vote on Tremblay's contract will be held at Wednesday's School Committee meeting at 7 p.m.
