City of Framingham Seeks New Library Trustee Board Member

FRAMINGHAM—The City of Framingham is announcing an opening on the 12-member elected Framingham Library Board of Trustees after Trustee Heather Woods's resignation.

The City seeks a dedicated Framingham registered voter to serve on the Library Trustee Board for a term ending December 31, 2025.

An individual will be appointed to complete the remaining seat term vacated by Woods.

A library trustee will be appointed at a joint meeting of the City Council and the remaining Library Trustees in the fall.

Dawn Dellasanta, Library Director, stated, “Our libraries are vital resources for the community, and the Library Trustee Board plays an essential role in shaping their future. We look forward to working with a new trustee who is passionate about supporting and enhancing our library services.”

About the Position:

The Library Trustee Board plays a crucial role in overseeing the municipality’s libraries. The board is empowered with the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Regulation and Operation: Establish reasonable rules and regulations for the operation of Framingham’s libraries and the board’s business.
  2. Budget Advisory: Advise the Mayor on the library department’s annual operating budget, equipment, and buildings.
  3. Director Appointment: Recommend a candidate for the library director position to the Mayor.
  4. Donations and Funds Management: Accept donations and manage funds held in trust.

Additional responsibilities include developing and approving policies, evaluating library activities, attending monthly meetings, and serving on various committees.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a resident and registered voter in the City of Framingham.

Prohibitions:

Board members cannot hold any paid position within the library department, except for stipend positions, and former board members must wait at least one year after their service before holding a compensated library position.
