FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham's TJX made it onto the Fortune 500 list. TJX owns TJ Maxx and was one of 16 Massachusetts based companies that cracked the top 500. An additional 18 fell short, but still made the top 1,000.

TJX, located at 770 Cochituate Road, ranked at 85 on Fortune's list, making it one of the top 100 businesses in the country. This is a steady ride for TJX who also ranked at 85 last year. The company reported $38,972 million in revenue and $3,059 million in profit. TJX has 270,000 employees.

Fortune Magazine released its annual list of the 500 top companies in America, which represent two-thirds of the U.S. GDP and have a total of $13.7 trillion in revenue, the magazine says. Of those 500 companies, 16 are based in Massachusetts.

Fortune said it ranks companies by total revenue. Overall, Walmart topped the 2019 list, followed by Exxon Mobil and Apple. Berkshire Hathaway and Amazon ranked No. 4 and No. 5, rounding out the top five spots on the list.
To put the list in context, Fortune writes that just a tenth of the companies on the list are responsible for nearly half of the total $13.7 trillion in revenue. (You can read more in detail about the list via Fortune here.)
