Funeral Mass for Coach Brown Monday

Relatives and friends can pay respect Saturday, March 30 at McCarthy and Sons Funeral Home from noon to 6 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget Church for Robert L "Brownie Brown. Family and friends are invited to the Mass.

surrounded by family at MetroWest Medical Center, after a short battle with cancer.

Calling hours will be at Eugene J. McCarthy and Sons Funeral Home, tomorrow, March 30, from noon to 6 p.m.

He was raised in Natick, and had been a resident of Framingham for 52 years.

Brown served in the Navy during the Korean War. While he was in the Navy, he was a notable baseball player. He was a 35 year employee of Boston Edison.

Among his many accomplishments, he served as a leader in his community by contributing in the following roles: Framingham Park Commissioner for past 38 years (the longest serving town official in Framingham history), Director of Framingham Youth Hockey program for 26 years, AHA Hockey Official for 26 years, Pop Warner Official, Coach of countless hockey teams, most recently the Framingham High School junior varsity hockey team from 2003 until the present.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Framingham Lodge of Elks and the Stanhope Country Club in his second home, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Brown will be greatly missed for his long standing dedication to his community.

He was a treasure to all that knew him and has left us with lasting memories.

He was the husband of 51 years to Margaret (LeBlanc) Brown. They had  four children: Kathleen Brown of Framingham, James Brown of Ashland and wife Sue, Christopher Brown of Framingham and wife Stacey and Suzanne Gurney-Brown of Framingham and husband Doug, and one sister, Ruth Ann Corbin of Milford. He is also leaves his prized grandchildren, Darren Gurney, Christopher James (CJ), Jack, Ashley and Jake Brown, and also many nieces and nephews, states his obituary on legacy.com

Burial will be in the Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham.
