TITLE Boxing Club is the third franchise to open in the Commonwealth. The company, based out of Kansas City, opened in 2008 by retired professional boxer Danny Campbell.
Besides the total body boxing and kickboxing classes, there are free weights, treadmills and TRX training straps for children, men, and women to use to warm up or for physical therapy.
With music pumping, the 60-minute boxing classic works the entire body and is supposed to burn 1,000 calories.
“We have everything you would find in a small gym, but its all about the boxing classes,” said Matthew Gandolfo, the general manager of the Framingham TITLE franchise.
“You work hard, burn 1,000 calories,” said franchise.
Classes are lead by trainers.
The head trainer for the Framingham franchise is Danny O’Connor, a name that likely is familiar.
O’Connor, who grew up in South Framingham, is a professional boxer, who got his start with the Framingham Police Athletic League program.
O’Connor won the 2008 National Golden Gloves as a light welterweight in 2008, and was a 4-time New England Golden Gloves champion. He ended his amateur career with 110 wins.
Now managed by Ken Casey from the Dropkick Murphys, O’Connor has returned to the ring as a professional.
“This is great for Framingham,” said O’Connor. “There is nothing like this in MetroWest.”
O’Connor will work as the head trainer at the TITLE Boxing Club, while also training for his next professional fight in early 2015. He has a professional record of 24-2, with 8 knockouts.
While members at TITLE will not get in the ring and box like O’Connor, they will work out just like he does.
Anyone can try one class for free, any time. It is called “First Shot Free.”
The most popular 60-minute boxing class, formerly called the Power Hour Boxing Class, is great for men, women and children, ages 8 and older.
Trainers teach attendees how to wrap their hands before the class starts. The 60-minute boxing class has a 15-minute warm-up, 30 minutes of bag work, and a 15-minute warm-down.
Before the more intense 30-minute boxing workout begins, attendees will get their “blood pumping and your muscles ready with stretching, jogging, jumping, squats, and calisthenics.”
Most of the 30-minute boxing workout is split into 3-minute rounds that include basic boxing combinations followed by a 1 minute of “active rest.” This gives those working out a way to keep their heart rate up, which helps keep the calorie-burning going strong.
During the cool down, trainers focus on activities to work the core including floor and toning exercises.
Nationwide, 70 percent of TITLE members are women, in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
The gym is open Mondays through Thursdays from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., and weekends from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A benefit of membership is you can take as many classes you want and you can take classes at any TITLE club, nationwide. Plans are underway for a Club at North Station/TD Garden. There are clubs in Danvers and North Andover also in Massachusetts.
Through Sunday, the Framingham club is offering a special membership rate.
The rate is $20 cheaper per month and is good until you cancel your membership. Also this week, new members get boxing gloves, a bag and other swag (worth a total of $99), if the become members by Sunday, Dec. 21.
Members are allowed to put their membership on hold on any given month, and not be charged.
If you want to customize your workouts, personal trainers are available, at an additional cost.
Personal trainers can create a plan personalized for anyone’s body type and fitness level. Each personal training session is designed specifically for the one individual.
