Responding to growing pains the Well Fed Dog is expanding is operations and has consolidated its Massachusetts offices and production facility to Saxonville.

The Well Fed Dog, creators of grain-free dog food that is like it came from your own kitchen, has relocated their headquarters to Framingham.

The company has consolidated their offices and production facility into a single location to better accommodate increasing demand for their line of frozen dog food.

The Well Fed Dog is now headquartered at 2 Central St. (Building 5) in Saxonville. This is the old Roxbury Carpet building.

“Over the last year, both our wholesale and retail business has increased tremendously, making it difficult to have our offices and production facility in separate locations,” said John Edwards, founder & owner of The Well Fed Dog. “By having everything we need in a single MetroWest location, we are able to save time and get orders to both our retail store and consumer customers even quicker.”

An alternative to raw or homemade diets, The Well Fed Dog creates fresh dog food in small batches to preserve as many of the nutrients as possible then freezes it for an extended shelf life. The company uses local, human-grade ingredients, such as real beef, fresh off the dock salmon, low-glycemic sweet potatoes, antioxidant-rich blueberries and flaxseed for heart-healthy Omega 3’s.

The Well Fed Dog’s line includes three flavors:

  • Beef & Sweet Potato Dinner
  • Salmon & Pumpkin Dinner
  • Lamb & Vegetable Dinner

In addition, the company creates custom dog food for picky eaters as well as those with allergies or other dietary restrictions.

The dog food is not cheap. One of the Well Fed Dog’s 16-ounce dinners costs about $7, compared with a 12-pack of commercial dog food that costs about $12-$15.

The company began in 2011 when Edwards began searching for solutions for his sick rescue dog. He was increasingly disappointed by the options he was finding and decided to start his own line. Soon, his dog went from being underweight, and flea-ridden, to the healthiest dog in town.

Over the last year, as the demand for The Well Fed Dog’s food has grown, the company has begun offering their line at dozens of retail stores in Massachusetts, including Especially for Pets, Pet World, Polkadog Bakery and The Fish & Bone.

In addition, the company regular participates in farmers markets throughout the Boston metro area and services hundreds of customers directly.
