ICYMI: Framingham Assault That Left Man In Critical Condition Lands Man Prison Sentence

FRAMINGHAM, MA—A man was sentenced on Thursday in connection with an assault that caused serious injuries in 2015 in Framingham.
Thomas Benjamin, 50, was sentenced to four to five years in State Prison today by Middlesex Superior Court Judge Bruce Henry in connection with a 2015 Framingham assault that left a victim in critical condition announced Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. Benjamin was found guilty of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury on Wednesday by a Middlesex Superior Court jury.
On Aug. 13, 2015, around 7:10 p.m., Framingham Police were dispatched to the Downtown Common for a report of a fight between two men. Police found the victim, who sustained significant injuries to his face and was slipping in and out of consciousness, said the DA.

Benjamin had apparently approached the victim while he was sitting alone in the park, punched him multiple times in the head, and then took off, according to an investigation. Witnesses attended to the victim following the assault until first responders arrived.
The victim was transported to an area hospital and transferred shortly thereafter to Tufts Medical Center where he remained hospitalized for one month. Due to the assault, the victim was treated for a traumatic brain injury and fractures to his nose and septum among other injuries.
