Jack's Abby Gave Pizza To Kids Out Of School Due To Coronavirus

"We'll hand out as much pizza as we have dough available," co-founder Jack Hendler said on Twitter.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The full impact of the new coronavirus is yet to be seen. But one side effect of keeping kids home from school is that they might miss out on a meal.

Framingham brewery Jack's Abby stepped up to fill that void on Thursday, offering free half pizzas to any student home from school who wanted one. Framingham closed schools on Wednesday after a COVID-19 exposure at Potter Road Elementary, and students won't go back to class until Monday at the earliest. Jack's Abby will continue to give out pizza on Friday.

"With schools shut in Framingham today many students won't be provided free school lunch. Any student or for that matter anyone can come and receive a free half cheese pizza to go no questions asked," Jack's Abby co-founder Jack Hendler wrote in a tweet. "We'll hand out as much pizza as we have dough available."

The brewery is no stranger to good deeds. Jack's Abby released a 2019 year-in-review community impact statement this week showing the brewery:

  • Gave close to $90,000 to local charitable events
  • Donated another $32,000 worth of in-kind services
  • Raised more than $90,000 through fundraisers
  • Brought 340,000 people from out-of-town to the Framingham brewery

If you're planning to support Jack's Abby this weekend, note that the brewery has enacted some new policies to stop the spread of COVID-19, including changes to seating arrangements and suspending brewery tours.
