JCC Clearbrook Swim Club 'Likely To be Sold'

JCC: "Future plans are not yet final, but it is likely that we will put the club up for sale."

Framingham Patch was the first new outlet to report that the JCC Clearbrook Swim Club's pool will not open this summer, at the end of February.

The 50-year old facility is in need of $100,000 worth of repairs.

Framingham Patch inquired if the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, which purchased the property in 2001 for $150,000, planned to fund raise to open the facility in 2014 or sell the property. This is the response Patch received:

"Future plans are not yet final, but it is likely that we will put the club up for sale. In that case, proceeds from the sale will be designated by the JCC, in consultation with the Metrowest Jewish Community Committee, specifically for programming in Metrowest. We are open to talking with members who are interested in the future of the club.”

The pool is located on a 4 acre parcel of land owed by the JCC of Greater Boston. It was assessed for $858,000 in 2013, of which $533,400 was the land value.

The $100,000 worth of repairs is needed to be in "compliance with new ADA requirements for swimming pools that went into effect as of Jan. 31, 2013," said the JCC of Greater Boston.

"Swimming pools are expensive to operate, and this is a 50-year-old facility. Our replacement and maintenance expenses keep mounting, and we have struggled to meet the everyday needs of an aging facility and higher water and pool chemical costs, especially with decreased revenue."
