Jeff's Place receives Cummings Foundation grant

Framingham, May 24, 2018 – Jeff’s Place is one of 100 local nonprofits to receive grants of $100,000 each through Cummings Foundation “$100K for 100” program. The MetroWest organization was chosen from a total of 597 applicants during a competitive review process.

Jeff’s Place provides comprehensive bereavement services for children and teens, and their families. Since 2010, Jeff’s Place has worked with over 550 individuals and currently has 52 caregivers and 86 children attending our bi-weekly group sessions or in counseling. Untreated grief can have serious consequences for children and their families and Jeff’s Place provides a safe and supportive place to help them feel connected with each other, less alone in their grief journey, and manage their loss in a healthy and meaningful way.

“We are indebted to organizations like Jeff’s Place that have a meaningful, positive impact in the local communities where our colleagues and clients live and work,” said Joel Swets, Cummings Foundation’s Executive Director. “We are delighted to invest in these important programs and services.”

David Sternburg, Jeff’s Place Executive Director, will join 300 guests at a reception on June 7th to celebrate this $10 million infusion into Greater Boston’s nonprofit sector from the Cummings Foundation. This year’s diverse group of “$100K for 100” grant recipients represent a wide variety of causes, including homelessness prevention, affordable housing, education, violence prevention and food insecurity. Most of the grants will be paid over two to five years.

“We are thrilled to be selected by the Cummings Foundation for a $100K for 100 grant,” remarked David Sternburg, “it honors the impact we have on grieving families in the MetroWest area and will allow us to support even more children and families when they experience an immeasurable loss.”

The Cummings Foundation was established in 1986 by Joyce and Bill Cummings and recently celebrated the release of Bill Cummings’ self-written memoir, “Starting Small and Making It Big: An Entrepreneur’s Journey to Billion-Dollar Philanthropist” in March 2018.
