Layoffs Coming To Framingham: Reports

An international biotech company is downsizing, and the result could be felt in Framingham.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — A biotech company with a footprint in Framingham plans to shut down the facility, according to a regulatory filing.

Germany-based Evotec will close four sites including a 30,000-square-foot lab and office space at 200 Staples Drive, just off Interstate 95. The property is part of a complex that once housed the headquarters of retailer Staples, and which sold in 2021 for $10.3 million.

News of the shutdown was reported Wednesday by the Boston Business Journal.

It’s unclear how many local employees could be affected, and no layoff notice had been posted by the state on Thursday afternoon. But the company has said a total of 800 workers would be laid off as a result of the worldwide downsizing.

The Framingham site is home to Cyprotex, which was acquired by Evotec in 2016 and moved from Watertown to the Staples Drive site in 2023.
