MA Native Injured In UNC Charlotte Shooting

A Massachusetts native was one of the students injured in Tuesday's shooting at the University of North Carolina Charlotte campus. Drew Pescaro of Ruthland, Massachusetts, was injured during the shooting and is recovering from surgery. His family has asked for prayers and support for his recovery.

Pescaro is a communications student at UNC and member of the student-run newspaper Niner Times where he serves as the sports writer. He is also a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the UNCC Men's Flag Football team. A;; organizations took to social media to confirm that Pescaro had been injured in the shooting and was in stable condition following his surgery.

Pescaro's brother, Ross Pescaro, confirmed that his brother had been injured in the shooting in an interview with WBTV. He asked for the community's prayers and for people to use the hashtag #DrewStrong when posting about him on social media.

Tuesday's shooting happened just before 6 p.m. and at least two people were killed and four seriously injured, according to a statement from UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip Dubois. The school was placed on lockdown and the shooter was caught and identified as 22-year-old Trystan Terrell.

Police were already in the vicinity of the shooting, preparing for a concert by rapper Waka Flocka Flame scheduled for that evening. The university has more than 26,500 students and 3,000 faculty and staff.

Terrell is facing several charges including murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
