Daigle died while running in his hometown Wednesday afternoon, McKeon said. He was rushed to Framingham Metrowest Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Daigle is survived by his wife Christine, his sister, father, and in-laws.

The following is McKeon's message:

"To all members of the Massachusetts State Police family,

It is with tremendous sadness that I must report to you the sudden death today of Trooper Matthew F. Daigle, assigned to Station H2, SP-Framingham.

Trooper Daigle suffered a medical emergency while running in his hometown. He was transported to Framingham Metrowest Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. He was 31 years old.

Trooper Daigle was highly-regarded and deeply respected by his brother and sister troopers, as well other members of the first-responder community who knew him. He was a member of the 80th Recruit Training Troop, and became a Massachusetts State Trooper upon his graduation in March 2012. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

I would like to express my gratitude to the Framingham Police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel who responded to Trooper Daigle’s medical emergency, and to the emergency room staff at Framingham Metrowest Medical Center. All of them tried valiantly to save his life. I am also thankful to Trooper Daigle’s colleagues from the MSP who responded to the hospital to offer assistance and support.

Most of all, our thoughts at this time, and our prayers, are with Trooper Daigle’s family. He is survived by his wife Christine, by his sister and his father, and by his in-laws. They will always be part of our MSP family.
Details of funeral services will be announced in the coming days.

-Col. Rick McKeon"
