Rep. Lewis to Speak at Webinar for Localism Without Borders

Rep. Jack Patrick Lewis Participating in Virtual International Webinar Localism Without Borders

June 2, 2021 (Boston)- Representative Jack Patrick Lewis (D-Framingham) is speaking in the virtual, international webinar Localism Without Borders on Thursday, June 3. The program will explore the role of local and regional governments’ in forging international relationships and supporting foreign policy alongside national governments.

Joining Rep. Lewis on the panel will be Professor Sheila Foster of Georgetown University, former member of the European Parliament for Germany Matthias Groote, former member of the European Parliament for France Christine Revault d’Allonnes Bonnefoy, and the Leader of the Cardiff City Council Huw Thomas.

“I’m honored to be speaking at this webinar with such exceptional public servants on this critical topic,” said Rep. Lewis. “When national leadership fails, state and local governments have repeatedly risen to the occasion. We saw this in 2017, when the United States announced its intention to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accords; shortly thereafter, however, numerous states and municipalities upheld their communities’ promise to combat climate change. The role of local governments in international politics is overlooked and understated, and I am eager to help change that on Thursday.”
