Route 9 Thrift Store in Framingham Closing Saturday

Two of Framingham’s three thrift stores have closed in the last two months.
Today, is the final day for the Salvation Army’s Thrift Store on Worcester Road in Framingham.
Located in downtown Framingham for years, the Salvation Army moved its thrift store to Route 9 in 2011.

Just before Christmas, the Society of St. Vincent De Paul closed its thrift store in the Mt. Wayte Plaza.
The only thrift store that will still be operating, come Feb. 1, will be Savers, which opened on Route 30 in 2010. Savers is a thrift store chain.

The Salvation Army owns the building on Worcester Road, which was formerly occupied by Pier 1 Imports, who ironically announced last month it plans to return to Framingham with a location in the Kohl’s plaza in Shoppers World.
The Salvation Army purchased the Route 9 building in September 2010 for $3.67 million. It is assessed at $3.7 million, according to the Framingham assessor’s database. The building is about 77,500 square feet.
The Salvation Army said it wants to open a donation center and would look at other locations for a new retail store. Profits from the retail thrift store benefits individuals in need. The Salvation Army will continue to operate its service location in downtown Framingham.
Signs on the door at the 215 Worcester thift store location said Saturday, Jan. 31, would be its last day.
