Saxonville Restaurant Closes

The Indian restaurant, which opened in 2014, operated in the building formerly built for a Friendly's.

An Indian themed restaurant, which opened in August 2014, turned its licenses into town hall last week, and has closed.

Taj Indian Cuisine, turned in both its restaurant and all-alcohol licenses to the Selectmen’s office at the Memorial Building last week.

The restaurant, which served authentic flavors from North Indian and a few delicacies from South India, opened at 62 Water Street, across from the McAuliffe library branch, in a building formerly occupied by a Chinese restaurant and originally built for a Friendly’s.

The restaurant’s menu included naan, chicken curry, tandoori shrimp, veggie pakora, and mango lassi.

Taj Indian Cuisine also offered a vegan menu, an all-you-can-eat-buffet, and had a full bar.

Before it closed, it was open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch 7 days a week. It was open for dinner 5 to 10 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 11 p.m. on the weekends.

At Taj Indian Cuisine, customers were treated to North Indian style cooking, prepared from a selection of Mughlai recipes.

Mughlai dishes originated in the 16th Century and were specifically prepared for the Moghul Emperors with the influence of Muslim cooking, said its web site.
