School Committee Chair Beverly Hugo Announces Re-Election Campaign

"My knowledge will help steer the committee in the proper direction of its roles and responsibilities," said Beverly Hugo.

The following is a statement by Beverly Hugo, who is running for re-election to the Framingham School Committee. There are two, 3-year seats available for the School Committee in the town’s election in April 2015.

I am running for my fourth term as a Framingham School Committee member because I believe that I can continue to be a value-added member of our Board, and in turn, to the education of our town’s children.

With the impending retirement of Andy Limeri, my institutional knowledge of the work of a School Committee member will make me the most experienced member in School Board Governance. With mandated legal and fiduciary duties, my knowledge will help steer the committee in the proper direction of its roles and responsibilities.

I have a passion for enhancing public education in Framingham, our Commonwealth and in our country. As a recently elected member of the Executive Board of our statewide organization, the Massachusetts Association of School Committee Members (M.A.S.C.), I will have the enhanced opportunity to continue to advocate for more resources and more legislation that is favorable for our district, our families, our teachers and our students, both on Beacon Hill and in Washington, as I have done in the past several years. As an officer in MASC, I authored several successfully enacted bills and resolutions affecting the education of all of Massachusetts’s students. I have been selected by MASC to testify both on a state and federal level on matters pertaining to public education, and have lectured on both the state and national levels.

Linking my experience in education and policy development, I plan, along with my colleagues, to continuously improve our School Board Governance in order to increase student outcomes for all children. Fiscal responsibility in spending our tax dollars wisely will continue to be a priority – thinking “outside the box” for efficiencies and revenue enhancements, while keeping the education of the child in the classroom in mind at all times.

The pursuit of closing the achievement and access gap for all students and all cohorts is always in my forefront. I wish to level the playing field for all students, increase opportunities for them, and want to make sure that we have a passionate focus on education, as well as the “whole” child, including social and emotional wellness, so that their futures will have the most potential for success!

My quest for the pursuit of excellence in Public Education, combined with my full-time commitment to your School Committee and my laser-like focus on student achievement and outcomes, combined with my passion for doing what is right for kids in Framingham, makes me feel that I can help to continue the significant growth that our district is currently undergoing.

I want to continue to be part of a comprehensive team that helps to elevate our district to a higher level where our students and our families continue to strive to their highest potential and allow our schools to continue to attract young families who want to live and work in Framingham.

As a retired public school teacher, and as a member of this School Committee for 7 years, and as a leader on the state level, I feel I am best suited and most qualified to continue to advocate for our town and our children.

With my excellent and tireless work ethic, my progressive and results-oriented approach, along with my collaborative and collegial style, I will use my experience and leadership to help to steer the course of education in Framingham.
