Second Framingham Man Wanted In UMass Assault Turns Self In

Shawn Wyatt, 22, is being charged in connection with the incident that had UMass-Amherst order a shelter-in-place last month.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - A second Framingham man suspected to be have been involved in an assault at UMass-Amherst last month turned himself in Tuesday, the Northwestern District Attorney's Office said.

Shawn Wyatt, 22, is due in Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown court Wednesday. He is being charged with armed robbery, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Police records show Wyatt has had several run-ins with the law the last couple of years, including having been arrested for assault and drug possession.

Wyatt and William McKeown, 19, of Framingham, are suspected to have been the men who assaulted a UMass-Amherst student in what is believed to be a drug deal gone bad. One of the men allegedly struck the student in the head with a BB-gun, which was thought at the time to be a firearm. UMass instituted a shelter-in-place.

McKeown turned himself in Feb. 19. He pled not guilty to armed robbery, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and he was released on bail.
