UPDATED: St. Tarcisius Priest Worked with Pope Francis

Father Volmar Scaravelli of St. Tarcisius in Framingham worked with Pope Francis for five years.

Pastor Volmar Scaravelli of St. Tarcisius in Framingham worked with Pope Francis for five years, reported WCVB-TV.  Watch the report here.

"Many times he came to my house and preached at a retreat for our people," said Father Scaravelli, who is originally from Brazil and worked with the new pope from 1997 to 2002 in Buenos Aires, to NECN.

The Framingham Pastor was the executive secretary from 1997 to 2002 for a commission on migrants with Argentinian Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

Pastor Scaravelli described him as humble.

"Every time he visited parishes in the suburban areas by bus, the bus was full with people and he went into the bus and went to work," Father Scaravelli told NECN.

St. Tarcisius is a Roman Catholic Church on Route 135 near downtown Framingham, that says Mass in both English and Portuguese. Its parishioners are predominately Brazilian.

Scaravelli told the Boston Globe the election of Francis meant so many things for Argentina and all of South America. “It presents honor for Argentina, not just Argentina but for all of us in South America,” he said. “It is good for all the people, for the church, and outside of the church.”
