FRAMINGHAM, MA — A third free coronavirus testing site will open in Framingham on Thursday at the Staples headquarters along Route 9, according to city officials.

The third testing site will offer drive-up testing for the first time since a former testing site at Keefe Tech closed in mid-August. Framingham has two other walk-up test sites at the Amazing Things Arts Center and the South Middlesex Opportunity Council, which just opened on Monday.

The new testing sites open as coronavirus cases have begun to rise significantly in Framingham.

The city counted 27 new cases over the weekend, which is the highest number of any reporting period since June. The state has also designated Framingham a "high-risk" site due to a high rate of cases — about 8.7 per 100,000 residents.

Testing at the new Staples site, 500 Staples Drive, will run Sept. 3 to Sept 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each weekday. Tests are free, and no appointment is necessary.
