Staples Investigating Breach of Customers' Credit Card Information
Staples, headquartered in Framingham, is the latest major retailer to have a data breach. Others include Michaels, Home Depot and Target.

Staples, headquartered worldwide in Framingham, is investigating “a potential issue” with its customers’ credit card data, the company said today, Oct. 21.
“We take the protection of customer information very seriously, and are working to resolve the situation,” said Mark Cautela, a Staples spokesperson said in a written statement.
Staples has contacted law enforcement about a possible data breach.

Staples is the latest major retailers in the last year, including Target, Michaels and Home Depot to have issues related to the privacy of customer information.
The office-supply retailer disclosed the investigation after security reporter Brian Krebs reported on his blog Krebsonsecurity.com that several banks have identified a pattern of payment card fraud suggesting that several Staples stores in northeastern United States had succumbed to a data breach, reported Reuters.

Staples has not released the any information on when customers’ credit card information may have been compromised.
