Summit Montessori School Students Participate in the Global Art Project for Peace

This month students at Summit Montessori School are busy creating art to share with others around the world. This Global project has facilitated an exchange of art by 130,000 artists on six continents since it began more than 20 years ago. To learn more about the Global Art Project for Peace, please visit their website.

Five Summit elementary students are planning and creating individual projects that will be part of the global art exchange. All Summit Kindergarten students are collaborating on a book that expresses their thoughts about a peaceful world in words and pictures. In addition every child at Summit will trace their hand and decorate the resulting print with a wish or thought about peace. After a display at Summit, all the decorated hands will be sent to the international headquarters in Tucson where the hands will be joined together to symbolize the multitudes of people working for peace.

Students are now beginning to learn where they will be sending their completed work. Two pieces are going to China, two to Morocco and the Kindergarten book is going to a school in the Netherlands. The completed work will be on display at Summit during the month of April. The exchange pieces coming from other artists will also be on display at Summit in June.
