Traffic Enforcement Officers Coming To Framingham Public Schools

FRAMINGHAM, MA- A couple more traffic enforcement officers will be coming to school crossings frequented by students and school buses in Framingham public schools.

After several crossing guards complained to police about speeding and dangerous drivers around student crossings, the Framingham police decided to take preventative measures to ensure the safety of students during drop-off and pick-up times.

Police are reminding motorists to drive slowly and safely when dropping off and picking up students at the schools and to be mindful that the speed limit through school zones is 20 miles per hour. Police also pointed out that drivers should obey the Crossing Guards in these school zones and stop when they are told to do so.

Framingham's Safety and Security Director, Scott Penrod said the safety of the students is the district's main concern and the collaborative effort between the schools and the police department is the best way to ensure that.

Lieutenant Harry Wareham of the Framingham Police Safety Division said there have been no accidents or close-calls involving students and that the measures are proactive and preventative. "This is not something you want to be reactive about, we want to do everything in our power to keep that from happening and keep students safe," Lt. Wareham said.

Traffic enforcement officers will be out on patrol for as long as they deem fit and until the issue is resolved.
