Train Derails In Framingham: Route 135 Will Be Closed All Day

The CSX train derailed near a major intersection in downtown Framingham, near where Routes 135 and 126 cross.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — A freight train derailed Sunday morning in downtown Framingham, and two major state routes in the area will be closed all day, according to police.

The derailment happened along Route 135 near the intersection of Cedar Street and a short distance west of Route 126 in downtown Framingham. That location is also near the commuter rail stop in Framingham.

Framingham police said Route 135 could be closed until 10 p.m. Sunday, with detours at Route 126 and Cedar Street, and later at Mellen Street.

The commuter rail was impacted Sunday morning but had reopened as of about 12:30 p.m. with the potential for delays due to single track use. A passenger in a passing train that was delayed by the derailment reported the derailed train appeared to include many tank cars of refrigerated liquid carbon dioxide.
