Two Marijuana License Applicants Recommended To Mayor

Framingham announced the second company to move forward with negotiations for a Host Community Agreement.

FRAMINGHAM, MA- Two companies have been recommended to move forward with Host Community Agreement negotiations with the city by the Framingham Marijuana Advisory Team (MAT).

The city previously announced Union Twist as one of the companies MAT was recommending but officially announced on Wednesday, Temescal Wellness will also be recommended to move forward.

Union Twist, Inc. is planned to be located at 630 Worcester Road. In Union Twist's application the company cites a "commitment to diverse and local hiring" and plans on having 30 percent of their workforce be black, African American, Hispanic or Latino; live in Framingham or in areas disproportionately hurt by drug laws; have experience growing a business.

Temescal Wellness, Inc. is planned to be located at 665 Cochituate Road, to be co-located with its existing Registered Marijuana Dispensary (RMD).

Between November 21, 2018 and February 7, 2019, the MAT received 17 applications from companies seeking a referral to the Mayor to negotiate Host Community Agreements for marijuana medical treatment centers, RMDs and/or adult – use marijuana establishments, and marijuana product manufacturers/cultivators. As of February 7, 2019, the MAT held meetings with 15 of the 17 applicants.

Host community agreements are key components of the state licensing process. It serves as a contract between the City and a marijuana establishment or medical marijuana treatment center that sets forth the responsibilities between the host community and the marijuana establishment or a medical marijuana treatment center.
