Veterans Day 2022 In Framingham: Schedule, Events, Speakers
Veterans Day in Framingham will be highlighted by the city's annual ceremony, a Medals of Liberty presentation and an art display.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — The City of Framingham has released plans for Veterans Day 2022 celebrations.
Framingham's annual ceremony will take place in Nevin’s Hall, within City Hall, on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will include "a variety of presentations," including an art display, “WWII Art of the South Pacific”, and the presentation of ten Medals of Liberty.
The art display, which is a new addition to the annual ceremony, will feature several paintings by artist Edward Brodney, a Framingham State University Alum and Boston Native. "The paintings on display depict soldiers in their everyday activities; repairing airplanes, carrying supplies, enjoying days off, and preparing for battle," officials said.

Framingham will also present 10 Medals of Liberty, which is an "honor awarded in the name of the Governor of Massachusetts to the families of servicemen and women who were either killed in action, died in service while in a designated combat area in the line of duty, or who died as a result of wounds received in action," officials said.
The Medals of Liberty will be presented to each Gold Star family by Senate President Karen Spilka’s Office, on behalf of the recipients who each served in World War II.

The program also includes remarks by Mayor Charlie Sisitsky, City Council Chair Philip Ottaviani Jr., Veterans Service Officer Kathleen Lang, and the honored guest speaker, Deputy Chief Ryan Sullivan, Lieutenant Commander, United States Coast Guard.
Sullivan is a Framingham native who enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Reserve in 1999. He was assigned to small boat stations in Chatham and Boston. In both assignments, he served as a communications watchstander, crewmember, engineer, and boarding officer.
In late 2001, he was mobilized to New York during the 9/11 response to conduct security patrols in New York Harbor. He is currently assigned as the Executive Officer of Port Security Unit (PSU) 301, located on Joint Base Cape Cod.
“Our Veterans Day Ceremony is a treasured annual event that represents Framingham’s commitment to our veterans and their families,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “I encourage everyone who has the ability, to attend this ceremony, or find a way to honor or thank a veteran in honor of Veterans Day.”
