VIDEO and IMAGE GALLERY: Framingham State Hosts Special Olympians

Organizers hope this will become an annual event between Special Olympics Massachusetts  and Framingham State University.

The May 5 event began with an opening ceremony, complete with a torch lighting. Afterwards students from Framingham, Natick, Marlborough, Northborough, Westborough, Southborough and other communities participated in several track events including a 100-yard dash, a long jump and a softball toss.

Ten schools sent 225 athletes to the competition. Each athlete competed in two events plus a relay. Some of the athletes qualified for the next competition Father's Day weekend at Harvard University.

Staples, UPS, Framingham State University's athletic department staff and students as well as other Framingham State students volunteered. More than 75 students from Framingham State helped at the event.
