World War II Veteran William Herrick, 89, Has Died

Herrick sang with the Heritage Chorale, and was an active member of Wesley Methodist Church in Framingham.

William Arthur Herrick, 89, died on Dec. 23, 2014 at a nursing center in Winchester

“Bill” was born and raised in Syracuse, NY.

Herrick was a World War II veteran, having served on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid in the Pacific. When he returned from his service he attended and graduated from Syracuse University.

He had a long career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and worked in the Boston headquarters office until his retirement.

In addition to his family, the love of his life was singing. Herrick honed his skills initially by performing as a guest soloist at area churches. He went on to sing for many years with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. He then joined acclaimed conductor Allen Lannom with the Masterworks Chorale in Lexington. In his later years he sang with the Heritage Chorale, a community chorus in Framingham, as well as the Highland Glee Club of Needham.

He was also an active member of Wesley Methodist Church in Framingham where he sang in the choir for decades.

His love of golf started when he caddied at local courses while a young teenager and he enjoyed golf with his friends well into his 70s. He was an avid bridge player and relished body surfing from coast to coast with his family.

He and beloved wife Doris recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Laurie Seewald and husband Scott of Encinitas, CA, son Mark and his wife Janet of Hamilton, and son Douglas and his wife Christine of Newton. He also loved and enjoyed his grandchildren, Kendall Seewald and Stephen, Daniel and Matthew Herrick.

A celebration of his life with family and friends will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
