2014 Northeast Wild Horse Adoption Conference

Promoting Best Practices for the Successful Adoption of Bureau of Land Management Wild Horses- The Center for Animals and Public Policy (CAPP) at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is hosting the 2014 Northeast Wild Horse Adoption Conference on March 28-30.

Please join us for a weekend of networking and education on wild horse adoption. The goal of the conference is to connect members of the equine community—from adopters and potential adopters, to equine rescue organizations, equine and veterinary professionals, and veterinary students—and promote successful wild horse adoption in the Northeast. The conference schedule includes speakers and panel discussions on topics such as wild horse care and acquisition as well as training demonstrations and a “meet and greet” with locally adopted wild horses.

The Bureau of Land Management has adopted out over 240,000 wild horses nationwide, including 6,415 in the Northeast. But slowing of adoptions in recent years and continued removals of wild horses from drought-stricken rangelands have led to approximately 50,000 wild horses living in holding facilities. The conference is a timely venue for adopters as well as others in the region to gather together and learn more about wild horse adoption.
