GRAFTON, MA — A South Grafton cafe is debuting a fresh look and menu this month after reopening under new ownership.
First Bite Café is holding a soft opening at 156 Main St. while its owners introduce new food and drink options, gather customer feedback and prepare for a future grand opening.
While the business has kept its name and location, owner Paul Sawyer said customers can expect some changes.
"We've been working hard to create a fresh experience with our own personality, atmosphere, and menu," Sawyer told Patch.
First Bite's interior also underwent a makeover, with the addition of blush pink décor and gold accents to create what the business describes as an elegant, feminine atmosphere, Sawyer told Patch.
Sawyer, along with co-owners Ashley Orawsky and Tiffany Zenaro, decided to take over First Bite after seeing an opportunity to create something special.
"We wanted more than just another place to grab breakfast or lunch," Sawyer told Patch. "Our vision was to create a welcoming neighborhood cafe where people could enjoy delicious food, feel comfortable, and genuinely look forward to coming back."
He said they hope to build a small-town cafe atmosphere where customers become familiar faces, conversations happen over coffee, and everyone feels welcome.
First Bite's new menu includes pancakes, waffles, French toast, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, burgers and club sandwiches. Pancake and waffle flights allow customers to choose several flavors, including birthday cake, red velvet, cinnamon bun and chocolate.
The business also offers gluten- and dairy-free pancake and waffle options.
Sawyer said they are using the soft-opening period to refine the menu and make adjustments based on customer feedback.
Sawyer told Patch that the most meaningful thing about owning a business in Grafton is community.
"The support we've received in such a short amount of time has been incredible," Sawyer told Patch. "From people sharing our social media posts to families coming in for breakfast and customers returning to try something new, every bit of encouragement means so much to us."
The business said they also hope to participate in community events and charitable initiatives as the business grows.
Sawyer said that First Bite will announce its official grand opening on Facebook and Instagram once it's finalized. For now, it is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
"Owning a small business is about more than serving food. It's about building relationships, becoming part of people's routines, and creating a place where memories are made," Sawyer told Patch. "Knowing that someone chose to spend their morning with us, celebrate a birthday, or simply stop in for a cup of coffee is something we don't take for granted."
