“One of the questions we hear over and over is ‘what is it like working at a resort casino, and what business opportunities are there?’” said Mitchell Etess, chief executive officer of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority. “Mohegan Sun has a sixteen year history of hiring and buying locally from the communities where we operate, and we’re excited to launch this new series to provide additional insight into the industry and the variety of employment and vendor opportunities it offers.”

Mohegan Sun has a philosophy of hiring locally and buying locally, which translates into more than $500 million annually in local goods and services in places like Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Mohegan Sun is also one of the five largest employers in Connecticut, employing more than 8,400 people – 90 percent who live locally. The company intends to bring that same philosophy to Massachusetts, and the region will play an important role in providing the skilled workforce and vendors necessary to successfully launch and operate Mohegan Sun Massachusetts.
“We are a local business that lives, works and believes in this region, and we’re excited to launch this new series that will provide residents with the opportunity to learn more about the career and vendor opportunities available in the gaming industry,” added Etess. “We’ve seen the tremendous impact that buying local can have for small businesses in the region, and we look forward to the benefits Mohegan Sun Massachusetts will bring to the entire Commonwealth through new economic development and revenue.”
During the workshop series, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Mohegan Sun Connecticut employees in a variety of fields who will discuss their careers with the company. Specific careers include table games and slot operations, casino accounting and finance, security, food and beverage, marketing and public relations, casino representatives and hosts, materials management, transportation, engineering, environmental services, human resources, information systems, and hotel sales and marketing.
In addition, vendors will share their experiences working with Mohegan Sun and how these relationships have supported and grown their business. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in an informal networking session.
The first two workshops will take place in Worcester on April 10, 2012 and in Palmer on April 16, 2013. The Worcester event takes place at the DCU Center at 6 p.m. and the Palmer event will be at the Palmer High School auditorium at 6 p.m. Space is limited and pre-registration is recommended.
