We all know we should stretch before taking on any activity. However, as soon as the sun comes out and the weather gets warm we head outside. We squat for hours (more than in any Zumba class) planting flowers and gardens, we push heavy pieces of lawn furnishings around the yard until they’re just right, and we lift bags of debris left from last fall heavier than most weights we would dare lift (and more awkward too!). Now if you’re like me, you don’t think, ‘maybe I should stretch before doing my yard work.’ Let’s change that mentality together!
It’s a beautiful spring day, perfect for planting, but first focus on your own roots. Roll out your yoga mat and start stretching. Focus on your breath, there’s plenty of yoga poses that can alleviate the symptoms of allergies this time of year brings. Plant yourself...not in a chair, but on your mat. Open your breath, and the rest of the body, and let your practice lead you to a much happier day in your yard.
