Summer Solstice: Play in the Sun

The Summer Solstice is here! Enjoy to sunshine this summer.

It’s the longest day of the year. The first day of summer. Somewhere a baby is being born and someone is getting married, but most people are just stuck working. So why do we get so hyped up for the ‘First Day of Summer’ when it’s been warm and sunny since May? What makes this day different from the rest? Here is a little insight into the true meaning of the summer solstice.

The summer solstice, scientifically, is based on precise measurements of the Earth and its orbital relationship to the sun. This results in the longest day, measured by sunlight, in a given year. Historically, this day has become known as a day of celebration for various cultures across the globe.

The celebratory aspect of the summer solstice brings us back to the time of ancient Egypt, when time was told through the setting sun on the pyramids and kept by sun dials. The Egyptians were not alone, cultures all over the globe have celebrated this day for centuries including the Mayans, the Inca and other people of South America. It is also a popular day for festivity within Pagan cultures.
