The Simple Life

There were no expensive toys or over priced tourist destinations. It was just us, enjoying the summer and what our local area has to offer.

Yesterday I had one of those perfect summer days with my children. It helped that the weather was (finally) perfect, but it wasn’t just about the weather. We started the day meeting friends at a local playground. I watched my children running around, playing in the sandbox, yelling and having fun.  Then, we hit a local farm stand and sampled some fresh fruit before buying some vegetables and fruit. After lunch, we took a swim in our pool before relaxing on our hammock. The three of us looked up at the clouds and decided they looked like pirate ships, dogs and flowers.  We then headed out to meet our friends from the morning at Harvey’s farm in Westborough.

We had a wonderful time looking at the plants there and roaming through the store. We then headed outside to see the animals. The kids loved looking at the duck, pig, goats and chickens. We bought some animal food at the store and took turns feeding them. There was lots of laughs at the turkey who kept yelling gobble (do turkeys yell?) at the kids.  My friend Jessica looked at me and said, “I love this. I’m so not looking forward to the day when the kids don’t want to do stuff like this.”

I took a minute and thought about our day: playing, swimming, laughing, gazing and feeding. There were no expensive toys or over priced tourist destinations. It was just us, enjoying the summer and what our local area has to offer.  It was perfect – and simple.
