According to a written statement:

"Last May, Oxford resident, Corrie Painter, was diagnosed with this incredibly rare and deadly disease. Since that time, this mother of three has started a non-profit corporation designed to raise awareness and funds to pay for research aimed at treating and eventually curing Angiosarcoma Cancer. Corrie is currently in remission and through her connections as a Ph.D. candidate at Umass Worcester her organization is currently funding a research lab at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York City," the statement said.

"Angiosarcoma, Inc. is a patient-driven, non-profit organization with one goal; to find answers through research. Angiosarcoma is one of the most aggressive cancers and has a dismal prognosis with a 5 year overall survival rate of 30%. We are in a race against time to find a cure, not only for ourselves, but for all victims of this insidious disease. Because this is such a rare cancer, accounting for only 0.1% of adult malignancies, it is poorly understood. Angiosarcoma Awareness, Inc. has raised over 60K since August and with your participation we expect that our 5k will be very successful in helping us to maintain and increase our funding."
