Grafton Community Television Interviews George Peterson
GRAFTON: When former Grafton State Representative George Peterson began a new career in February with his appointment as Massachusetts Commissioner of Fish and Wildlife, it was a position that he was uniquely qualified for. An avid hunter and fisherman, Peterson manages a state agency that is responsible for in excess of 200,00 acres of land and such diverse programs as marine fisheries, fishing and hunting, and building new fish and boating access facilities. After his first half year in this new position, Peterson recently visited the GCTV studios and sat down for an interview with Richard Schultze, GCTV access assistant.
During the 38 minute interview, Peterson clearly shows the enthusiasm he has for his new work. Massachusetts is the fifth most densely populated state in the nation, and yet it has a very active hunting and wildlife management program including extensive (and growing) populations of deer, black bear, and turkey. Peterson discusses Fish and Wildlife’s emphasis on getting youth introduced to hunting and fishing activities, and the Department’s goal to expand the amount of land available for outdoor activities.
