Grafton Gets Public Water Systems Award in Energy Conservation

MassDEP announced 41 winners of the 2015 Public Water Systems Awards.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) announced 41 winners of the annual Public Water Systems Awards, given each year to celebrate National Drinking Water Week (May 3-9). The awards were presented during a ceremony held at The Gloucester House in Gloucester.

The Grafton Water District was the sole award winner in the Energy Conservation Category.

“The Commonwealth is fortunate to have 1,735 public water systems that work every day to provide a safe and consistent water supply source that we should never take for granted,” said MassDEP Commissioner Martin Suuberg in the announcement. “Given the many worthy drinking water systems in the Commonwealth, we try to find each year those whose consistency and foresight in planning for the future are deserving of special recognition and commendation.”

Since 1991, MassDEP has given these awards to acknowledge the many dedicated professionals whose accomplishments in maintaining consistent and safe delivery of potable water to the residents of the Commonwealth are worthy of special recognition.

All of the state’s public water systems were nominated simply by serving as a public water system.
