MA Rep. Muradian Proud to Announce Grafton as Tree City Award Recipient

Representative David K. Muradian, Jr. (R-Grafton), is pleased to announce that Grafton has received a Tree City USA Award.  

These awards have been given for over 30 years and are a way for the National Arbor Day Foundation to recognize municipalities that have not only managed forest resources, but also help solve extensive forestry issues. Specifically, DCR Urban and Community Forestry administer the program for the state of Massachusetts. This program has become increasingly popular, and 83 Tree City awards will be given out this year alone. Within New England, Massachusetts has the largest number of recipients for the Tree City USA award.

Nationally, the Tree City USA program provides directional and technical assistance, public attention, and recognition for the forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities that more that 93 million Americans call home. DCR is committed to increasing the number of Tree Cities in the state; however, they seek assistance in efforts to bring new communities into the program.

“It is very exciting to announce that the town of Grafton has been granted such an outstanding award,” said Representative Muradian. “In today’s day and age, taking care of our environment is very important. This award further demonstrates the impact that our town has made, and I am very proud to see our community be recognized for its environmental efforts.”

The town of Grafton received this award at the annual Tree City and Tree Line USA Forum and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 15, 2016. The ceremony was held at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Specifically, Grafton has been a recipient of this award for the past16 years.
