New Plan for Library Could Be Presented in Spring

Issues of ADA compliance remain outstanding.

Library trustees hope to bring a new plan to spring Town Meeting to address issues at the building.

 “The library trustees will now work with the Building Committee to solve the issues with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as repair the safety and structural issues that are critical within the building,’’ trustee Dana Wilson said in a prepared statement.

Voters rejected an expansion plan for the library today by more than 1,000 votes.

Trustees hope to bring forward a “new plan that will be the product of many minds and numerous public hearings,’’ she said.

Today’s no vote means the town will return the $5 million state grant for the library expansion as well as about $500,000 in pledged financial support.

Work of some sort must be done at the library to ensure that it is complaint with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the trustees said.

Wilson said the trustees are disappointed with today's vote but "will continue to strive to be prudent, economical and focused on serving our entire town.''
