On the Edge of the Debt Ceiling

People are impatient with the government and cannot wait for a final decision

As the country appears headed for a deal on the debt ceiling, Grafton's patience is running out faster than the government can make decisions.

“All of this is kind of hard to understand,” said Beverly
Mara, of Grafton. The government "is being stubborn and forgetting about us. I think they need to start acting like Americans.”

Like Mara, others think that the government should choose their solution for the debt ceiling controversy wisely, especially when
reelection season comes around.

“People are stubborn,'' especially Republicans, said Susan
Leto, of Grafton. “People need to realize that prices go up. It’s a part of the way it is.”

While Leto and others share a frustration with how the government is taking care of their debt, some are enjoying the bliss of ignorance. Four people said they had never heard about the debt ceiling controversy before, while two said they had no opinion about it.

But Lynn Morgan of Illinois is optimistic that a deal will be reached.

“Compromise is always good,” said Morgan, who is visiting
Grafton. “I’m glad to see that (the government is) making decisions.”
