Grafton Man Dead After Truck Hits Tree

An off-duty Grafton firefighter came upon the crash.

GRAFTON, MA—A 36-year-old Grafton man is dead after striking a tree in Grafton on Thursday evening.

On May 18, around 10:25 p.m., Grafton officers and MedStar Ambulance responded to Merriam Road after a 9-1-1 call about a vehicle accident with injuries. The caller was an off-duty Grafton firefighter.

A pickup truck had struck a tree several hundred feet east of 16 Merriam Road, with the operator suffering from serious injuries. There were no other occupants in the truck and it appeared that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The operator, identified as Adam Goodspeed, was extracted from the vehicle and after examination, was transported to UMASS Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the truck was heading west on Merriam Road when it crossed over into the eastbound lane and struck a tree. The vehicle then veered back into the westbound lane and came to rest partially off the roadway.

The Grafton Police Department is continuing its investigation of the crash with the assistance of the CEMLEC Collision Reconstruction Team and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
