Procrastinators Unite! We've Got Your Gift Ideas

What to buy in town at the last minute.

OK, so you knew it was coming, but somehow the days kept passing and you kept telling yourself you'd shop tomorrow. Tomorrow came and cookie baking called or hiking with friends or maybe a sick child.

Either way, here it is, the day before Christmas Eve and you still have shopping to do. Where do you go and what do you do? No worries, dear readers, we here at Patch have been in all of those circumstances and know the answers. Here is our local list:

1. Stop n Shop has a phenomenal floral section. Here you can get a fabulous centerpiece, a bouquet that will make grandma swoon or a variety of different plants that will look splendid months later. Our favorite is the crazy daisy bouquet or the Christmas cactus. Hibiscus are also stunning this time of year.

2. is always our fallback because they have wine and cheese, and many other treats that will easily make a great gift basket. Best news? They are having a wine tasting for customers on Christmas Eve so you can sample before you buy.

3. A gift certificate will never go out of style, and it's bound to be a favored gift as the recipient can use it anytime. We suggest . This restaurant offers a variety of food choices, so even the picky eater will find something to gnosh.

4. If all else fails and it is 11:45 p.m. on Christmas Eve and is your only option, no worries. With some clever thought, you could put together a nice basket of, say, coffee and a coffee card and cup or a sweet treats basket full of candy, doughnuts and other treats. Make sure you arrive before midnight on Christmas Eve, though, as Cumberland Farms will be closed from midnight to 8 a.m. on 12/25.

5. S is the place to go if you awaken on Christmas morning aware that you forgot a gift for the girlfriend who turned up with your son last night. They are open at 8 a.m. on Christmas morning and they carry a variety of trinkety gifts like candles, statues, and garden gnomes. They also have a great selection of frames and a kiosk to create a last minute treasure.
