While pellets were found in the bird’s neck, officials from Tufts Wildlife Clinic said there is no real telling as to how an adult swan found in Shrewsbury was injured.

The swan was brought in to Tufts last week, reported MassLive, after Shrewsbury Animal Control Officer Leona Pease was alerted that it was on Old Faith Road and looked sick and weak.

The pellets showed up in the X-ray, but a spokesman for Tufts said it wasn’t a fresh wound and was “incidental.”

“Sometimes we see adult swans in a similar state after they’ve had some kind of interaction with a vehicle,” she told MassLive.
