Upton Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation Of Homes

Residents were allowed back into their homes Wednesday afternoon after the area was evacuated for a broken gas line.

UPTON, MA – Residents returned to their homes and Hartford Avenue South reopened Wednesday afternoon following a gas leak in Upton. The leak was reported on Hartford Avenue South near the railroad tracks.

The road was shut down for a period of time, and four homes from the rail tracks to Farm Street were evacuated, according to the town of Upton's Twitter account. The leak came from a two-inch gas main, the town said.

Police reported the gas shut off around 4:20 p.m. Eversource crews worked Wednesday evening to repair the main.
